Pastor Henry S. Cotton, Jr. St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA

Greeting you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

There are a lot of Pastors in the headlines these days, and not all of them are for positive reasons. I am very concerned about the pastors who are being maligned for being found in situations that are not giving God any glory; instead they seem to be doing just the opposite. I am not jumping to the defense of these pastors, but I am jumping to the defense of the gospel.

You see, before these people become “Pastors” of any local church, the Bible not only does the Bible give instructions on how to appoint pastors, but it also gives the qualifications that are necessary for Pastors.

I am saying that when these questionable pastors are being judged and scrutinized, the boards, members, or whoever appointed this person as pastor of the local church they are pastoring should also be scrutinized to see if they followed the procedure (as directed in the Holy Bible) for appointing a pastor.

I am going to start a study: “THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR BEING A PASTOR OF A NEW TESTAMENT LOCAL CHURCH.” This series of lessons will be conducted during the SJMBC Wednesday Night Bible Study, the SJMBC Podcast, and some lessons might even make their way into the SJMBC SUNDAY MESSAGES!

We have already begun with a Podcast of the qualification: “The Husband of one Wife.” We have only done part one of this qualification; you can find the video on our Facebook and You Tube pages. You can also access the written outline of this Podcast through our website: https://stjamesmbcphilly.com/

There will also be the written outlines of these lessons found in “The Pastor’s Blog,” and “The Pastor’s Corner,” which will also be accessible through our website. Thank you!
