Living a Christ-like life becomes difficult when believers try to follow God while still holding on to worldly desires.
In this St. James MBC podcast, Pastor Henry Cotton points listeners back to God’s Word, the Holy Spirit, and the daily decision to walk in the way of Christ.
Walking by the Spirit
Drawing from Galatians 5:16–17, Pastor Cotton explains that Christians cannot rely on their own strength or judgment.
The Holy Spirit provides the guidance needed to follow God through pressure, temptation, and hardship.
Walking by the Spirit does not remove temptation. It helps believers resist giving the flesh control.
The Conflict Is Ongoing
The flesh and the Spirit pull in opposite directions.
Pastor Henry Cotton reminds believers not to assume that spiritual battles are over simply because they have chosen to follow Christ.
Old desires can return. Temptation can remain. The responsibility is to keep the flesh under Christ’s authority and continue in obedience.
Keep in Step With the Spirit
Christ-like living means letting go of former ways and following where God leads.
It also means showing Christlike love even when angry, frustrated, or under pressure.
Trying to live partly by the world and partly by God produces instability. The call is to keep in step with the Spirit.
