Looking Beyond God’s Blessings

When we think about what God has done for us, we often remember the blessings we can see: food, shelter, family, good health, and protection through difficult times.

But in this Sunday message from St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Henry Cotton challenges us to look beyond what God has given and consider what God willingly experienced for humanity.

Through Jesus Christ, the eternal God entered human existence, experiencing hunger, thirst, fatigue, pain, and temptation.

He did not have to experience these things. Yet He chose to.

Faith Beyond Human Understanding

Pastor Cotton reminds us that God’s works do not always fit human logic.

Consider Jesus feeding more than 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish, leaving twelve baskets of leftovers. Human calculations cannot explain such a miracle, but faith recognizes God’s power beyond what we can measure.

As Hebrews 11:6 teaches, without faith it is impossible to please God.

We are encouraged to recognize God’s hand not only in extraordinary miracles but also in the everyday blessings we sometimes take for granted.

Before Abraham Was, I Am

Drawing from Genesis 1:1 and John 8:58, Pastor Henry Cotton explores a powerful truth about God’s eternal nature.

When Jesus declared, “Before Abraham was, I am,” He revealed an existence beyond the boundaries of human time.

Unlike humanity, God has no beginning or ending. Yet this eternal God chose to enter the world through Jesus Christ and experience life as a man.

That choice reveals something remarkable about God’s love.

A Savior Who Understands

The heart of this message is a reminder that Jesus understands the human experience.

He knows what it means to be hungry, tired, tempted, and burdened by life’s challenges.

Because Christ experienced human life firsthand, believers can turn to Him with confidence, knowing they are approaching a Savior who understands their struggles.

God has not only provided for humanity. Through Jesus Christ, He has shown that He understands humanity.
