I am your host Brother Henry Cotton, Jr. and I am also the Pastor of the SJMBC. Welcome to our Podcast. The topic for our Podcast today is:
“HOW IMPORTANT IS THE WORD OF GOD TO YOU WHEN IT COMES TO . . . Having a RELIGIOUS Influence in Schools?”
Even though I live in Philadelphia, PA, I have taught in other states and cities throughout the country; and through all the years I have spent teaching, the behavior of students have always been challenging no matter where I have been. I hear the murmurings of parents speaking about the need for a religious presence in the schools.
We have discussed the issue of putting prayer in the schools. I believe that some of the same challenges would have to be addressed when it comes to having a “religious” presence in the schools. First, what would be the purpose of this presence? Second, are teachers expected to be this presence? If not the teachers then who?
It seems to me that there are too many parents looking for the schools to try to instill in the students what the parents should be instilling in their children at home. Yes, this puts a lot of responsibility on parents; but isn’t that where the responsibility supposed to start?
