St James Missionary Baptist Church Wednesday Night Bible Study
ARE CHRISTIANS THE ONLY ONES EXPECTED TO CONFESS THEIR SINS?
What is the purpose of confessing your sin? I think there are a number of reasons why people need or want to confess their sins, and here are a few:
- To relieve the feeling of guilt.
- To find someone who will help you feel justified in what you did.
- Looking for Absolution.
- To a follower of Jesus Christ, you know GOD is not pleased with what you did and you hope that HE will forgive you.
- Because the word of God tells you to.
Let us look at a few scriptures to see what kind of enlightenment we can get. We know that there are many passages we can choose, but as is our custom, we just choose a few in hopes that they will get you to want and look for more answers in the Bible.
“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” Proverbs 28:13 (NIV)
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16 (NIV)
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 (NIV)
What are your thoughts about “Confessing your sins?” Let me know. Until the next time we meet, May the Lord Bless you and keep you!
