There are many people (Saint and Sinner) complaining about the way our children are behaving today

Pastor Henry S. Cotton, Jr. St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA

Greeting you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

There are many people (Saint and Sinner) complaining about the way our children are behaving today. These complaints are coming from all around the world and from every walk of life; that means from the rich as well as the poor.

These children weren’t born toddlers, they were born infants. These children had to grow up to get to the age where they have become nuisances and misbehaved children. So where are/were their parents and/or guardians as they are growing up? Who was/is teaching these children right from wrong? Who was/is chastising these children when they were doing wrong? Who is bringing these children up in the fear and admonition of the Lord?

Many of us need to face the sad truth that we are failing a lot of our children when it comes to teaching them how to behave. A lot of our children have not been taught how to treat others and how to behave properly in society, so how can we expect them to behave as responsible young people? Here are a few scriptures that will give some sound teachings to what should be expected from parents/guardians:

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:1-4 (NIV)

“ Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.” Colossians 3:20-21 (NIV)

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. 21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.” Colossians 3:20-21 (KJV)
