Text – John 9:14; 1 Corinthians 2:14

INTRODUCTION –

One of the problems that many people have is that they must be able to make sense out of the things of GOD. I remember being taught that the Red Sea is filled with so much salt that it nearly impossible for a person not to float in it; so that is probably how the Israelites crossed through it. I remember being told that there have been found possible wreckage of a boat of some sort found in the mountains where this wreckage could be parts of “Noah’s Ark.”

I remember reading of how science explained what could have really happened to Jonah. The list of the many ways that men try to explain the things of GOD never cease to amaze me, because on one side of these men’s mouths they refuse to believe and/or acknowledge the LORD and His word (Holy Bible). However, on the other hand than they spend so much energy and resources trying to scientifically prove how the wonders and miracles of GOD were performed (expound).

This reaction to the wonders of GOD is nothing new. In the passages of scripture we are examining today, we will see just what we are talking about as we ask the question:

“WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THE THINGS OF GOD MAKE NO SENSE?”

“They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind. 14 And it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. 15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see. Therefore said some of the Pharisees; this man is not of God, because he keepeth not the Sabbath day. Others said, how can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. 17 They say unto the blind man again, what sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet. John 9:13-17 KJV

POINTS –

  • Therefore said some of the Pharisees; this man is not of God, because he keepeth not the Sabbath day. Others said, how can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? – Even those who belong to the same religious order could not come to an agreement about the miracle the Lord had performed; they could not agree on what type of man Jesus was  (expound).
  • And there was a division among them. – When trying to determine whether or not Jesus was a man of God or not, some of the Pharisees said that Jesus could not be of GOD because He did not keep the Sabbath; but the rest of them questioned whether or not a sinner could do what He did. Take note that did not commit to whether Jesus was Saint or Sinner. Aren’t you glad that there aren’t people like that around today? (Expound).
  • They say unto the blind man again, what sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet. – This phenomenon seemed to leave these learned, religious men divided and confused because they had a man whom some of them wanted to brand a sinner, doing something that only a man sent from GOD could do ;this made no sense to them! They decided to go to the subject of this miracle (not the source, but the subject). Is this not what man does? Because he doesn’t want to believe the creator, he spends time examining the creation (expound).

CONCLUSION –

Too many times do we have Believers who are left befuddled by the wonders of GOD instead of simply believing what He has done and praising Him for it! Many Believers act surprised when the Lord answers their prayer; didn’t you expect Him to answer it? (Expound). Believers should not be surprised that the unsaved people respond to the miracles and wonders of God the way they do. There are many scriptures that explain to us why Non-Believers act the way they do, but I am only using one today:

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14 KJV

When the things of GOD make no sense to unsaved (natural) man, we can look to him to break out the calculators, the computers, the scientific formulas and laws, and everything else . . . besides God’s word to try and make sense of what the LORD is doing. When science has taken the time to consult with what the Bible says about the phenomenon’s that man cannot explain, we see that man has found the answers.

For those who are part of the family of God, we know to give GOD the glory, praise, and honor for those good things that happen in our lives. It is not “LUCK”, or “SOMETHING”, or “THE UNIVERSE,”  we know that it is GOD and we thank HIM for what He has done and is doing in our lives! (Conclude).
