Text – John 14:6 (read vv.1-6)

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him,Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John‬ 14‬:1‬-6‬ KJV‬‬‬‬‬‬

INTRODUCTION

Many people want to get to heaven, and they don’t all claim to be Christians! Most of these people equate Heaven with being in the place where GOD is located. They are not wrong, but they seem to have left out something very important . . . HOW TO GET THERE!” This is the problem that has, and still, plagues man to the point that he has felt the need to create many different religions, cults, philosophies, beliefs, etc., in his search for GOD.

So imagine how the people must have felt when this man comes along performing miracles in the name of the GOD of their fathers, teaching from the same scriptures their fathers teach them but with an authority they have never seen. And all the while calling GOD His Father, and saying that He too is GOD! (Expound).

So here it is; when Jesus left His disciples, He told them they would be the light now. He let them know that men will direct their hatred, disdain, disbeliefs, and even their love towards them as they preach the “Good News” to them. Yes! The good news is every scripture found in the Holy Bible. As Believers on the Lord Jesus Christ reminds men that it is these very scriptures that lets us know that it is Jesus who is the “Author and Finisher of our Faith.” (Expound)

Understanding that man’s focus should ultimately be on Jesus, this leads us to our subject for today’s message: “HOW DO I GET TO BE WITH JESUS?

POINTS
  • “My Father’s house has many rooms . . .” (v. 2) – Assuring His disciples that they don’t need to be worried, Jesus let them know that His Father’s house has plenty of room and that He was going there to prepare a place for them.
  • “I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (v. 3) – Look at this four-point promise Jesus says to them: 1. He will come back. 2. He will take the disciples back with Him. 3. He will be there. 4. They won’t just be visiting, but they will dwell there with Jesus. (Expound).
  • “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” (v. 5) – I know that some of you are saying that you can understand them saying that they may not know the way, but didn’t He just finish telling them that He was going to His Father’s house? (Expound).
CONCLUSION

Some of you now realize that your salvation comes through faith in Jesus. Your hope each day lies in the promises and assurances of Jesus. Your eternity lies in the resurrection and return of Jesus. So you are asking the question: HOW DO I GET TO BE WITH JESUS IN HEAVEN?” You see, there is only one way to get Heaven and that is through Jesus Christ! But don’t be discouraged, because there are a number of ways people made their way to Jesus. A blind man was sitting: asking for alms and he cried out to Jesus. A woman met Jesus at a well. One man climbed up a tree to see Jesus. Saul (Paul) was blinded and introduced to Jesus while he was on his way to Damascus to persecute Believers in Jesus.

There are many testimonies of people who were at various stations of their lives when they met Jesus. Some people found Jesus in the midst of their Alcoholism. Some people found Jesus in the midst of their stealing, Some people found Jesus when they were homeless, etc. Many people found Jesus when they were in bad situations or circumstances, while others found Jesus while they were at stages in their lives where some might have thought that Jesus was nowhere to be found; But the key is that they met Jesus! Jesus declares that:

“I am the way and the truth and the life.

No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 (KJV)

There is no other way to get the Father’s house (Heaven) other than through Jesus. If you have to go through your drugs, your alcohol, your lying, your stealing, your destitution, your pride, etc. Do what you need to do to get through to Jesus. (Conclude).
