GOOD MORNING BELOVED!

Welcome to a special edition of the SJMBC Podcast:

“THE SEVEN LAST WORDS OF CHRIST FROM THE CROSS.”

We are also looking at these as “Acts of Love.” John 3:16 (NIV) states: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” It is in the spirit of this verse that we look at these seven acts/words of love.

“HOW IMPORTANT IS THE WORD OF GOD TO YOU

WHEN IT COMES TO . . . ?”

I am your host Brother Henry Cotton, Jr. and I am also the Pastor of the SJMBC. Welcome to Podcast number 18. The topic for our Podcast today is:

The Word of Victory . . .

“When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” John 19:30 (NIV)

The sixth word from Jesus while on the cross was a cry of victory. The sixth word:

“It is finished,” is Jesus’ declaration that everything He came from Heaven to Earth to do was now completed; it is Jesus’ recognition that He finished the job that the Father gave Him to do.

“It is finished.” As we consider the life and ministry of Jesus we can think of several things that His death made complete: Jesus fulfilled prophecies; He achieved victory over Satan, sin, and death. Jesus secured salvation for all who would believe. His bringing a new Kingdom to Earth is finished, and His suffering is over! So the tasks that Jesus came to earth to perform were finished.

Jesus is obedient to the Father and this act of love for mankind by redeeming us with His death on the Cross clearly shows us just how much love Jesus has for man. When Jesus was dying on the cross, He remained in complete control to the end. It was not until Jesus declared that His task was completed that He gave up His Spirit. We have to make sure to bring emphasize this point because there are some people whose exegesis of this passage has them wrongly interpreting that it was Jesus’ death that brought forth the Holy Spirit.

IT IS FINISHED!!!
