GOOD MORNING BELOVED!
Welcome to another edition of the SJMBC Podcast:
“HOW IMPORTANT IS THE WORD OF GOD TO YOU WHEN IT COMES TO . . . ?”
I am your host Brother Henry Cotton, Jr. and I am also the Pastor of the SJMBC. Welcome to our Podcast. The topic for our Podcast today is:
“HOW IMPORTANT IS THE WORD OF GOD TO YOU WHEN IT COMES TO . . . PUTTING PRAYER BACK IN SCHOOLS?”
The discussion of bringing prayer back into schools is a discussion that happens often. However, this discussion doesn’t go in the same direction that it used to go, because the way our society is today; new and interesting challenges are presented; for instance:
- Will each person be given the right to pray to their God, and in the manner to which they are accustomed? (Expound).
- Will this prayer be mandatory or voluntary? If voluntary, then what will the students who choose not to pray be doing while others are praying?
- Will this prayer be done audibly or silently?
- What if a student says they want to pray but they don’t know how? Or if a student asks who or what should they to pray to; who and how is that question going to be addressed?
- What if a student says they feel excluded and/or offended when students are praying; what is going to be done about this?
I’m sure there are other issues and/or challenges that can be addressed. So as you can see, having prayer in schools today can bring about a whole new set of challenges that were not present years ago. As for Christians, when did the Lord instruct schools to teach our children to pray? Shouldn’t our children be taught to pray by their parents? Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ have been shown a blueprint for praying in Matthew 6:5-13, but I just want to share these two other verses with you today:
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. “ Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)
“4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4 (NIV)
