I am your host Brother Henry Cotton, Jr. and I am also the Pastor of the SJMBC. Welcome to our Podcast. The topic for our Podcast today is:
“HOW IMPORTANT IS THE WORD OF GOD TO YOU WHEN IT COMES TO . . . HELL!”
A lot of people take a very nonchalant attitude towards Hell. They don’t mind telling other people to go there; and at the same time they don’t mind telling people that they are probably going to go there themselves. They also mention that they will have plenty of company there because they believe that a lot of their friends and buddies will be there. There are also a lot of people who act as if it is a forgone conclusion that they are going to wind up in hell when they die. I don’t understand; if these people can believe that there is a hell, and that there is a place to go to when they die, why can’t they believe that there is a better place to go to when this life is over..
A lot of these same people get brochures, look in newspapers, go to the internet, and even go by reputation and word of mouth about places they are thinking about vacationing to; why not search out some information about Hell? I mean, if they are convinced that they are going to go there after death, if they knew what kind of place hell is, maybe they wouldn’t have such a cavalier or nonchalant attitude about going there or telling someone else to go there. Here just a few things the Bible has to say about Hell:
- Hell is a place where the fire there will never go out:
A. ” . . he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” (Matt. 3:12D)
B. ” .. it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:” (Mark 9:43B)
- Hell is a place that will be the way it is now and for eternity.
A. “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment.” (Matt. 25:46)
B. “And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up forever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.” (Rev. 14:11)
- Hell is a place where the Lord and the Angels will witness the torment of those who are there:
“The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:” (Rev. 14:10)
- Hell is a place of such terrible torment; the people there will be hollering and going mad!
A. “And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame!” Luke 16:24
B. “And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” Matt. 13:42
My beloved sisters and my brothers, just as sure as you might do some research when you are getting ready to travel or take a vacation, doesn’t it make sense to take heed to this available and reliable research about the eternal place where you are planning to go and spend eternity?
