GOOD MORNING BELOVED!
Welcome to another edition of the SJMBC Podcast:
I am your host Brother Henry Cotton, Jr. and I am also the Pastor of the SJMBC. Welcome to our Podcast. The topic for our Podcast today is:
“HOW IMPORTANT IS THE WORD OF GOD TO YOU WHEN IT COMES TO . . . HALLOWEEN? (Part One)”
Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?
We are approaching that day of the year when many of the saints of God feel that it’s okay to mingle and emulate the actions of the people of the world . . . Halloween! Is this holiday uplifting the kingdom of God? Is Halloween based on Godly themes such as the idea of peace, freedom and salvation or does the holiday bring to mind feelings of fear, obsession and bondage?
Many of us grew up waiting to go “Trick or Treating.” Maybe it was the way society was, or maybe it was the innocence of our youth that prevented us from thinking about the satanic and demonic themes and overtones of Halloween that allowed us to enjoy this day; but what about our parents and religious leaders? Were they aware and knowledgeable?
I am not going to go into the origin and history of Halloween at this time; I am simply going to state some of its obvious themes. Believers who participate in the celebration of this day should consider what type of day you are celebrating, and what Halloween appears to be all about. Halloween promotes death, fear, witchcraft, evil spirits, and also things pertaining to Satan worship. Why would any Believer have anything to do with a day that promotes these ideals?
Additionally, does the Bible sanction witchcraft, witches, and sorcery? On the contrary, the Bible makes it clear that these practices are an abomination to the Lord. The Bible goes on to say in Leviticus 20:27 that anyone who practiced witchcraft, soothsaying, and sorcery should be killed. Deuteronomy 18:9-13 adds, “When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you … one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord.”
Let us consider some scriptures found in the Holy Bible that may cause those of you who think it is okay to allow your children to participate in this day:
- “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14
- ”17Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” 2 Corinthians 6:17
- “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?” (Matthew 5:13)
- “Ye are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:14A)
- Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
